Wombaroo Pig Milk Replacer is a nutritionally balanced milk substitute for piglets of all breeds. Use for orphaned or low-birth weight piglets, large litters or when the sow's milk is limited.
Key Features:
* Specifically formulated to match the composition of sow's milk
* High in Whey Proteins - rich in essential amino acids required for healthy growth.
* Elevated levels of Omega 3 & 6 - essential fatty acids for skin, cell & brain development.
Ophaned Piglets:
Success in hand-rearing piglets greatly improves if they receive colostrum at birth. Piglets that don't get colostrum from the mother can be fed Impact Colostrum Supplement. Commence feeding Wombaroo Pig Milk Replacer after the initial feeds of colostrum. Piglets should be housed in a clean, draught-free environment that is maintained at about 30?C.
Large Litters:
Litters in excess of 11 piglets suffer greater mortality because average birth weight decreases and more piglets are born with a body weight less than 1kg. These smaller piglets should be removed from the litter and either raised as orphans or supplemented with Wombaroo Pig Milk Replacer until they attain a normal body weight.
Low Birth weight Piglets:
Piglets with birth weights less than 800g are subject to a high mortality rate. They rarely survive because they are unable to attach to a teat. They become progressively weaker and die from starvation or overlay. Use Wombaroo Pig Milk Replacer to bring these piglets up to weight for age and then either continue to hand-rear or establish them on a foster sow.
Making up Milk:
To make 1 litre of milk: Add 180g of powder to 850ml of warm water.
Add half the water to the powder first and mix to a paste. Then add the remaining water and mix thoroughly. Pre-boil the water to ensure it is sterilised. If the water is too hot it can cause the milk to curdle. If it is too cold then it will be difficult to disperse the powder. Wombaroo contains elevated protein and fat levels, so the milk needs to be well mixed to prevent it from separating out. An electric whisk can be used for mixing larger quantities. Milk can be stored in the fridge for up to a day or can be frozen for up to 2 weeks.
Feeding:
Warm milk to about 30ºC. Piglets may be bottle fed or stomach tubed, however they will soon learn to lap from a shallow bowl. Feed 4 times a day for the first 10 days, reducing feeding frequency as weaning commences. Animals drink water when thirsty so always have clean drinking water available.
Growth:
Depending on breed, healthy piglets should weigh between 1.2 and 1.4kg at birth and increase body weight by about 200g per day (less for miniature breeds). Over feeding can cause diarrhoea, so large deviations from the suggested feed volumes are not advised.
Weaning:
Commence weaning after 10 days by introducing a quality creep or weaner food into the diet while gradually reducing the volume of milk fed.
SIZE: 5kg
