Poseidon Stress Paste is a concentrated 60mL nutritional formula designed to support your horses in times of acute stress. Such times may include when competing, racing, transporting or in extreme heat and humidity.
Acute stress can be emotional or physical and affects horses in many ways. They stop eating. They stop drinking. Muscles can fatigue quickly with dehydration and can result in reduced nutrients available to support energy production.
Competitions, strenuous work, transport, illness, long days competing, extreme heat and humidity, extended times off feed or other major changes to your horses's normal routine can compromise gut health. Gut bacterial populations can shift. Muscles and organs can be damaged with higher rates of oxidative stress.
Behaviour can become anxious and highly strung, and this behaviour then starts the stress cascade all over again. They stop eating. They stop drinking… and so it goes.
Stress Paste is designed to specifically address each of these responses to stress and keep the horse eating and hydrated with well-functioning, well protected muscles. This is why it is complete with so many ingredients. Stress Paste is also designed to support the gut so it and it’s bacteria can remain healthy during higher stress periods.

- Magnesium & B1 for normal nerve function

B-Quiet is formulated to manage the symptoms of thiamine and magnesium deficiency, including hyper-irritability, nervousness and anxiety, which may result in decreased performance.
B-Quiet is available as a pellet or convenient paste for daily or strategic use when travelling or competing.
Why use B-Quiet?
• Combination of thiamine and magnesium to support excitable, highly strung or anxious horses

• Thiamine plays a vital role in carbohydrate metabolism and nerve transmission
• Horses on high-grain, low-forage diets or hard-working horses, may have reduced production of thiamine by intestinal bacteria because of stress or hindgut acidosis
• Magnesium has an important role in muscle and nerve function
• Horses that are deficient in magnesium can show signs of spooky and excitable behaviour, and may suffer muscle tremors or cramping
• Recent research has shown that magnesium supplementation may positively influence behaviour in horses during stressful situations
• Does not contain prohibited substances
When to use B-Quiet
• Horses prone to hyper-irritability, nervousness, and anxiety

What is BetaCALM Paste?
BetaCALM Paste is a fast acting, effective and convenient supplement specially formulated for nervous, hot or stressed horses. Each BetaCALM Paste contains a unique formulation containing the optimal level of Tryptophan plus four herbal ingredients to enhance the calming effect.
For longer term calming use BetaCALM Powder.
How does BetaCALM work?
BetaCALM Paste is a combination of natural herbs and the optimal level of L-Tryptophan, which can be used to create a calming effect in horses that are nervous, excited or stressed.
- Tryptophan: An essential amino acid that stabilises the horse’s mood for a less excitable temperament. Tryptophan is not produced naturally by the horse and beneficial levels are not provided in feed. Tryptophan is converted in the body to serotonin, which helps to induce a feeling of calmness.
- Black Cohosh: A herbal extract commonly associated with mild relaxation in periods of stress or anxiety.
- Passion Flower: A herbal extract that supports a calm and relaxed disposition.
- Hops: This herbal extract contains several nutrients including volatile oils, tannins, flavonoids, organic acids, vitamins, minerals and trace elements. Often recommended as a tool against anxiety and stress, hops has a calming effect.
- Ginger Root: Is believed to aid in the availability of dietary nutrients for digestion and metabolism and to facilitate the utilisation of available energy resources, thus soothing the horse.
Remember, there are many factors that can cause undesirable behaviour in horses including diet, age, training, housing, pain and digestive conditions. It is best to discuss your horse’s diet and history to determine whether changes in feeding and management of practices are also required to reduce anxious behaviour. To help manage nervous horses, try providing constant access to forage, small meals and reduce starch/sugar in the diet. Also, decreasing stable time and providing equine company is very beneficial for mental health.
Long term behaviour problems are frequently associated with digestive conditions. In this case, use Kelato’s GastroAID Recovery.
- BetaCALM Paste is designed to be mixed in the horse’s feed.
- Dial the syringe to provide a 10mL per 500kg horse.
- Give 1 hour prior to a stressful event.
Sizes
- 30mL syringe in a single carton.

BetaCALM is a Tryptophan, Thiamine, Vitamin E and Magnesium supplement designed to nutritionally support nervous and anxious horses.
What is BetaCALM?
They don’t call it the nervous system for nothing! Anxiety affects horses too and stressful experiences can have a significant effect on their mental state. That’s why BetaCALM was formulated – to provide a source of vitamins, minerals and amino acids that may help to reduce nervousness or hyper-reactivity in horses.
How does BetaCALM work?
BetaCALM has a unique combination of four ingredients to nutritionally support nervous horses without affecting performance.
- Tryptophan: An essential amino acid that stabilises the horse’s mood, reduces anxiety and lessens the stress response. Tryptophan is not produced naturally by the horse and beneficial levels are not found in feed. It is converted in the body to serotonin, which helps to induce a feeling of calmness.
- Vitamin B1 (Thiamine): A B vitamin that plays a vital role in nerve transmission. Hard-working horses or those on a high grain, low forage diet may have reduced production of thiamine in the hindgut due to stress or hindgut acidosis.
- Vitamin E: An antioxidant that helps to protect cell membranes from oxidative damage and maintain normal nerve and other functions.
- Magnesium: Important for cell metabolism, especially in the nervous system and muscles during work.
The specific levels of magnesium, vitamin B1 (thiamine), vitamin E and tryptophan may help to actively reduce the stress response during training, travelling and competition. With thiamine’s important role in energy metabolism and nerve transmission, and tryptophan’s role in the inhibition of stress and fear, deficiencies of these nutrients may cause anxiety, mental confusion and failure of muscle coordination. On top of this, magnesium has been found to reduce reactivity in horses.
Remember, there are many factors that can cause undesirable behaviour in horses including diet, age, training, housing, pain and digestive conditions. It is best to discuss your horse’s diet and history to determine whether changes in feeding and management practices are also required to reduce anxious behaviour. To help manage nervous horses, try providing constant access to forage, small meals and reduce starch/sugar in the diet. Also, decreasing stable time and providing equine company is very beneficial for mental health.

Hush is used as a training and management aid for horses exhibiting excitable or irrational behaviour or during periods of mental stress. It is useful for breaking, training and transport of horses.
Tryptophan is an amino acid necessary for normal growth in foals and for nitrogen balance in adult horses. It is an essential amino acid, which means the body cannot produce it and it must be obtained from diet. Tryptophan is low in dried pasture and grain. It is used by the body to help produce niacin and serotonin. Studies have shown that serotonin may increase sleepiness or sedation and decrease aggression, fearfulness, mania, insomnia and pain sensitivity. Tryptophan deficiency is thought to increase nervousness and excitability in some horses. Management considerations could also help calm the excitable horse.
B-Complex Vitamins:
Athletic animals should be given a range of vitamins, minerals and amino acids in their diet to maintain optimal health. B-Group vitamins are intimately involved in energy metabolism - the conversion of food into fuel. They also stimulate the appetite and are involved in blood formation. Unfortunately most B-Vitamins are not stored in the body and need to be replenished daily.
Athletic animals, which exercise regularly and strenuously, have far greater requirements for vitamins, amino acids and minerals than non-athletic animals. Maximal exercise has been shown to reduce B vitamin levels, and suppress the blood counts of athletic animals. Many athletic animals have a low red blood cell count. Less red blood cells means less oxygen going to the muscles which means they cannot perform at their peak. The B complex vitamins and the trace minerals iron, copper and cobalt are required for the production of normal red blood cells. The need for B Complex Vitamins are increased in athletic animals in training and under stress.
B-1 Thiamine
Thiamine is necessary for the proper function of the heart and nervous system. Combines with phosphorus to form thiamine pyrophosphate (TPP) necessary for metabolism of protein, carbohydrate, and fat; essential for growth, normal appetite, digestion, and healthy nerves. A deficiency of thiamine can cause weakness, fatigue, confusion, and nerve damage.
B-2 Riboflavin
Helps muscle cells produce energy. It is required by the body to use oxygen and the metabolism of amino acids, fatty acids, and carbohydrates. Riboflavin is further needed to activate vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), helps to create niacin and assists the adrenal gland. It may be used for red blood cell formation, antibody production, cell respiration, and growth. Vitamin B2 is required for the health of the mucus membranes in the digestive tract and helps with the absorption of iron and vitamin B6. Although it is needed for periods of rapid growth, it is also needed when protein intake is high. Riboflavine (Vitamin B 2) works with the other B vitamins. It is important for body growth and red blood cell production
B-6
Vitamin B-6 is important for health of the blood vessels and red blood cells. Pyridoxine hydrochloride (Vitamin B 6) plays a role in the synthesis of antibodies by the immune system. Antibodies are needed to fight many diseases. Vitamin B 6 helps maintain normal nerve function and also acts in the formation of red blood cells. It is also required for the chemical reactions needed to digest proteins. The higher the protein intake, the more the need for vitamin B 6. Deficiency of this vitamin can cause irritability and confusion.
Magnesium
Magnesium in the body serves several important metabolic functions. It plays a role in the production and transport of energy. It is also important for the contraction and relaxation of muscles. Magnesium is involved in the synthesis of protein, and it assists in the functioning of certain enzymes in the body. Magnesium deficiency symptoms include muscle weakness, fatigue and hyper-excitability.
If dietary levels are low, supplementation with Hush with Tryptophane from Equine Health Science may help counter symptoms of hyperexcitability, nervousness, irritability and confusion.
Equine Health Science - Hush with Tryptophane. May be useful for training & education, showing and transport of all horses.
