What are essential fatty acids (EFAs)?
EFAs are the omega 3 & 6 components of fat that cannot be synthesized by the body and must therefore be supplied in the diet. Eggs contain over 25% unsaturated fat composed of oleic, omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. Seed mixes alone do not provide the EFAs that breeding birds require so dietary supplementation is important for improved breeding success.
The Good Oil contains the following EFAs and fat-soluble vitamins:
- Omega 3 & 6 fatty acids which are essential for egg-laying, chick growth and immunity.
- Vitamin A for cell development in the embryo.
- Vitamin D3 for absorption of calcium, bone growth and eggshell formation.
- Vitamin E which is an antioxidant and helps maintain cell membranes.
Contains:
Oleic Acid (omega 9) 380 g/litre
Linoleic Acid (omega 6) 350 g/litre
α-linolenic Acid (omega 3) 130 g/litre
EPA (omega 3) 15 g/litre
DHA (omega 3) 6 g/litre
Vitamin A 15 mg/litre
Vitamin D3 1 mg/litre
Vitamin E 2 g/litre

Vitamin D3 is a particularly important nutrient. Birds housed indoors may lack D3, which can lead to poor breeding success and chick growth, inadequate calcium absorption and many other problems.
Soluvite D is recommended for all birds on seed diets and is
particularly useful for birds housed indoors with limited or no access to natural sunlight.
Soluvite D should be used in conjunction with a trace mineral supplement (e.g. TRACEMIN) and a calcium supplement (e.g. CALCIVET or D NUTRICAL), for birds on seed diets.
DIRECTIONS:
Add 4g to 400mL of water and stir well OR add 1g to 1 cup of food and combine well. Daily use of vitamins in either food or water is recommended to supplement the diet.
Soluvite D may be used in all species of birds. Prepared water should not be exposed to direct sunlight; replace daily.
Active Constituents: Vitamin A, Vitamin D3, Vitamin E, Vitamin K, Niacin, Pantothenic Acid, Riboflavin, Thiamine Pyridoxine, Cyanocobalamin (B12), Folic Acid, Choline Bitartrate, Biotin, Iodine.

Calcium is beneficial in preventing soft shell and promoting healthy feather and bone growth.
Iodine in the diet will reduce feather and skin abnormalities and help the bird's immune system, thereby reducing the possibilities of infections.

Vetafarm Nectar Pellets are a complete and low-sugar diet for loris and lorikeets.
Nectar pellets have been formulated to provide complete nutritional balance for growth, breeding, brain function and optimum feather development when fed as 80% of your birds diet. The remaining 20% of the diet should consist of a combination of fresh fruits and vegetables (15%) and selected treats such as nectar mixes (5%).
Directions:
Loris and lorikeets eat between 10-15% of their bodyweight in dry food per day. A 120g bodyweight lorikeet requires a minimum of 10g of nectar pellets per day.
Pack size: 350g, 2kg, 10kg
From $36.95
Directions:
1. Mix a handful of pellets and a handful of seed together in a container. Add enough hot water to make the mix sticky. Mould he mix into a rissole shape and press together. Place the freshly made rissole in the bird’s normal feeding container. The birds will initially pick through the rissole looking for seed. Repeat the process daily but slowly reduce the amount of seed and increase the portion of pellets.
2. A similar process can be done with soaked seed. This is especially useful if the hen is rearing chicks, as they tend to take food very easily.
3. A blend of dry seed and pellets can be used in a normal dish. This method is slower and acceptance varies between individual birds.
4. Removing seed and replacing it with pellets (going cold turkey) is the least preferred method. In this instance the birds should have access to fruit and vegetables at all times so they have some form of nutrition while learning what pellets are.
5. Birds that are hand tame can be offered pellets smeared with fruit or peanut butter from you hand until they get used to the taste. Although the conversion process may be a little tedious, once it is done the advantages of pellet feeding are obvious. Chicks reared by adults on pellets will automatically go to them when they are weaned. Birds that have been reared on the pellets will convert back to seed easily, especially if they have had access to some soaked seeds and seeds in fruit and vegetables.
Pack sizes: 350g, 2Kg, 10Kg

Symptoms of calcium deficiency include: Dystocia/Egg Binding, soft or thin shelled eggs, flight issues, lack of coordination during flight, legs spread further apart, leg weakness, seizures, drooping wings and biting/aggression.
Calcivet has been formulated to supplement the diet of birds where calcium and Vitamin D3 may be low. It will also support breeding birds and their young with essential calcium. Vitamin D3 maximises calcium absorption in the gut.
Calcium supports shell formation and the normal development of bones in young birds. Regular use of Calcivet in seed eating birds will ensure adequate calcium for strong bones, muscle formation and general wellbeing.
