Directions for Use

Determine your horse's bodyweight and set the syringe to the appropriate dose.
Ensure the horse's mouth is free of feed.
Insert the nozzle into the interdental space between the front and back teeth.
Deposit the paste onto the back of the tongue.
Immediately raise the horse's head for a few seconds to encourage swallowing.

Equest Plus Tape wormer for horses controls tapeworm in addition to all the other major gastrointestinal worms and bots. 

Equest Plus Tape is the only horse wormer that is long acting: re-treatment is recommended after 14-16 weeks compared to after 6-8 weeks with other wormers. This means fewer treatments per year and twice the time that pastures are left free of worm eggs.  

Equest Plus Tape is also the only horse wormer to have a registered claim to control encysted small strongyles in a single dose. Small strongyle worms hibernate or encyst in the lining of the horses gut and can cause colic. While other horse wormers kill the small strongyle worms that are in the gut itself, Equest Plus Tape is the only wormer with a registered claim to also kill the encysted forms. Parasite Control Programs: 

All horses should have a regular parasite control program. Regular treatment will reduce the risk of diseases due to small and large strongyles such as colic and verminous arteritis. Reinfection of horses with worms is common and treatment must be repeated routinely to ensure effective control. The unique long term activity of Equest Plus Tape long acting horse wormer & boticide gel against worms, including encysted small strongyles, is particularly useful in reducing the required dosing frequency in strategic parasite control programs. Retreatment intervals for the control of small strongyles can be extended for 14 to 16 weeks. Applemax Gold Liquid Wormer may be used in horses of all ages including mares at any stage of pregnancy provided normal care is taken in handling. Stallions may be treated without adversely affecting their fertility.

Dosage & Administration:
Discard any unused diluted Applemax Gold Liquid Wormer suspension 24 hours after dilution.
The recommended dose is 1mL Applemax Gold Liquid Wormer per 50kg liveweight (equivalent to 200µg Ivermectin per kilogram liveweight and 1.5mg Praziquantel per kilogram liveweight).
Applemax Gold Liquid Wormer can be given as an oral drench or by stomach tube (nasogastric intubation). Nasogastric intubation should only be done by a veterinarian or under veterinary supervision.

Administration as an oral drench:
For administration by this method, an undiluted dose is usually preferred. Clear the horse’s mouth of any food material, elevate the horse’s head, and using a suitable dosing syringe, deposit the appropriate dose in the back of the mouth. In order to avoid unnecessary coughing or the potential for material to enter the trachea and lungs, do not use excessive pressure, do not use a large dose volume of diluted Applemax Gold Liquid Wormer and do not deposit the dose in the laryngeal area. Increased dose rejection may occur if the dose is deposited in the front of the mouth. Keep the horse’s head elevated and observe the horse to ensure the dose is retained.

Administration by stomach tube (gravity or positive flow): Drenching horses by nasogastric intubation requires specialised skills and knowledge. Special consideration should be given to the effects of potential for injury from handling, restraint and placement of the tube during administration by stomach tube. Nasogastric intubation should only be done by a veterinarian or under veterinary supervision.

The recommended dose can be used undiluted or diluted up to approximately 40 times with clean tepid water. Use tepid water to flush any drug remaining in the tube into the horse’s stomach. Pour the Applemax Gold Liquid Wormer into a graduated cylinder for dose measurement. Alternatively use a calibrated dosing syringe inserted into the bottle to measure the appropriate dose. Use a clean, dry syringe if accessing the bottle to avoid contaminating the remaining product.

Turn the knurled ring ¼ turn to the right to lock in place. Remove the plastic cap from the tip of the nozzle. Make sure the horse’s mouth does not contain feed. Insert the syringe into the side of as horse’s mouth in the gap between the front and back teeth. Advance the plunger as far as it will go depositing the paste on the rear of the tongue. Immediately raise the horse’s head for few seconds after dosing to ensure the full dose has been swallowed.

Use at the correct weight-based dose. There is no blanket ‘use every X weeks’ rule printed on the label – instead iMEC should be used as part of a monitored parasite-control plan. For many adult horses with good pasture management, one treatment in spring and one in late summer/early autumn will suffice, provided a broad-spectrum product (with tapeworm activity) is used. Abamectin stimulates the release of the neurotransmitter GABA in roundworms, increasing chloride ion permeability in nerve cells. This inhibits normal nerve transmission, causing paralysis and death of the parasite.
Praziquantel affects tapeworms by causing spastic paralysis and damaging the tegument, increasing membrane permeability to cations. The tapeworms are then destroyed in situ.
Oxfendazole destroys abamectin-resistant Parascaris equorum by inhibiting tubulin synthesis in the parasite, leading to death by starvation.

Withholding Period (Horses):

Do not use less than 28 days before slaughter for human consumption.

Dosage and Administration:

For oral use only.

General dose rate: 1 g Equitak Excel Paste per 20 kg bodyweight, equivalent to:

Abamectin 0.2 mg/kg bodyweight
Praziquantel 2.5 mg/kg bodyweight
Oxfendazole 10 mg/kg bodyweight

Equitak Excel is safe for use in all classes and types of horses, including foals, breeding mares, pregnant mares (at all stages of pregnancy), lactating mares and stallions.

How to Administer:

Set the correct dose by turning the plunger lock to the required bodyweight.
Remove the cap from the syringe nozzle.
Insert the syringe into the side of the horse’s mouth, in the gap between the front and back teeth.
Advance the syringe as far as possible onto the tongue and press the plunger fully to deliver the dose.
Deposit the paste onto the rear of the tongue, then raise the horse’s head for a few seconds to ensure the full dose is swallowed.

Yellow Tube is highly effective against gastrointestinal, cutaneous and pulmonary nematodes in horses of all ages. Regular treatment with Expel Yellow Tube will also reduce the chances of verminous arteritis and colic caused by strongylus vulgaris.

Expel Yellow Tube combines two active ingredients, Abamectin and Morantel Tartrate, that work together to give a cross kill action on a number of worms including the possible mectin resistant large roundworm. Treatment of large roundworms is particularly important to horses under 24 months of age.

Expel Yellow Tube contains abamectin which kills up to 100% of bots and other worms (including benzimidazole resistant strains),whilst morantel tartrate is effective against tapeworms, small and large strongyles, large roundworm and pinworms.

INDICATIONS:

At the recommended dose rate of 5.4g/100k, Expel Yellow Tube treats and controls the following parasites:

Tapeworms - Anoplocephala perfoliate;

Large Strongyles - Strongylus vulgaris (adult and arterial larval stage), Strongylus edentatus (adult and tissue stages),Strongylus equinus (adults), Triodontophorus spp. (adults);

Small Strongyles - Including (adult and immature) benzimidazole resistant strains of:

Cyathostomum spp., Cylicocylus spp.,Cylicostephanus spp., Cylicodontophorus spp., Gyalocephalus spp;

Pinworms - Oxyuris equi (adult and immature);

Ascarids - Parascaris equorum (adult and immature);

Hairworms - Trichostrongylus axei (adult);

Large Mouth Stomach Worms - Habronema muscae (adult);

Neck Threadworms - Onchocerca spp. (microfilariae);

Bots - Gasterophilus spp. (oral and gastric stages);

Lungworms - Dictyocaulus arnfieldi (adult and immature); and

Intestinal Threadworms - Strongyloides westeri (adults).

Expel Yellow Tube is also an effective control of skin lesions caused by Habronema and Draschia spp. cutaneous larvae (summer sores) and Onchocerca spp. microfilariae (cutaneous onchocerciasis).

All horses should be included in a regular parasite control programme with particular attention being paid to mares, foals and yearlings. Because re-infection is common, treatment must be repeated routinely for effective control.

Expel Yellow Tube is suitable for horses, ponies and foals from 6 weeks of age.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:

One syringe of Expel Yellow Tube will treat a 600kg horse. Each 5ml division on the plunger contains 5.4g, sufficient to treat 100kg of bodyweight.

Expel - Yellow Tube should be administered orally by placing the nozzle into the side of the mouth and deposit the paste as far back over the tongue as possible. Immediately raise the horses head for a few seconds after dosing to ensure the full dose has been swallowed.

What wormer should I use for my horse?

Choosing a wormer for your horse will depend on what worms you are trying to treat. There are over 20 different intestinal worms that can be found in horses, the most common worms of concern for the horse population today are, Large Strongyles, Small Strongyles, Roundworms and Tapeworms. You can then choose a wormer that contains the appropriate active ingredients to that treat the worms of concern.

What are the active ingredients in horse wormers?

Horse Wormers will consist of one, or a combination of four different active ingredients (chemicals). The four main chemical groups that are used to treat worms in horses are;

Macrocyclic lactones (mectin based) – broad spectrum protection (not tapeworms)
Benzimidazoles – generally used for rotation worming
Praziquantel – specifically for tapeworm control
Tetrahydropyrimides – narrow spectrum wormer

What is Rotational Worming in horses?

Wormer rotation refers to periodically changing the horse wormer you are using to worm your horse. But it is not about changing the wormer brand but more specifically you must change the active ingredient that you are worming with. The reason you should rotate wormers is because some intestinal worms can build up a resistance to the active ingredient in wormers and therefore their effectiveness can be significantly diminished or become completely ineffective. Popular rotational wormers in Australia include Strategy-T and AMMO Rotational Wormer Paste (Green).

How often should I worm my horse?

Follow the recommendations on the horse wormer you are using to see when you will need to worm your horse again. Some products have intervals of 6 weeks while others are longer lasting with up to 16 weeks between treatments, like Equest Plus Tape.
