Easiest method for precise dosing of insulin for my Westie

I really like the Vetpen system and so does Peggy, my diabetic Westie.
It's great to know the correct dose is being administered in as painless a manner as possible.
My only gripe is the cost.
I'm on the aged pension and, at approximately $1 each twice daily, these needles are very expensive.
It would be wonderful if the manufacturer could make them more affordable.
