Ranvet's Racing Oil is an essential fatty acid feed supplement for horses. This high energy blend of essential Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids is specifically balanced and formulated for performance horses.

Active Constituents (Per L)

• Omega-3 (Linolenic Acid) – 107mL
• Omega-6 (Linoleic Acid) – 426mL

Features of Racing Oil

• Provides sufficient energy for performance, particularly for endurance (aerobic) work where the use of fats spares glycogen stored in muscle tissue so that it is available for intense anaerobic work such as sprinting, jumping etc.
• Spares glycogen use, reducing the formation of lactic acid, thereby extending endurance and stamina, and delaying muscle fatigue.
• Ideal Omega-3 and Omega-6 essential fatty acid blend provides beneficial anti-inflammatory protective and immune stimulating effects.
• Highly palatable.

Benefits of Racing Oil

• Reduces the volume of feed required and significantly improves the available energy for endurance (aerobic) performance in all disciplines.
• Well balanced oils provide 'cool' energy which do not excite horses as seen with high grain diets.
• Limits the heat of digestion, particularly important in warmer climates.
• Maximises immune responses (which are often suppressed in hard working horses), reducing inflammation and muscle damage during exercise, improving muscle and joint/connective tissue recovery, repair and maintaining cell membrane function.
• Improves fertility in breeding stallions.

Directions for Use / Contraindications

Ranvet Racing Oil may be mixed through the feed or administered orally over the tongue.

Important Note

It is likely to take up to 4-6 weeks for horses to adapt fully to oil in the diet, so a gradual increase in the oil content of the diet from 30-50mL daily is advised.

It must be considered that up to as much as 10% of the diet can be achieved in fat supplementation.

Dosage Rates

• Horses in training: 30-150mL daily
• Horses with metabolic disturbance ie; 'tying up': 150-300mL daily

• Promotes growth & development.
• Suitable for a variety of diets

Key Ingredients:
22mg/mL Calcium (as Calcium Glubionate and Calcium Lactobionate)

Directions for Use:  See attached table
Calcium supplementation may not be required for your pet depending on their daily diet and other health needs. The attached DIRECTIONS are only a guide. It is recommended consulting your veterinarian before using this product.

Why would I use VETSENSE CALCIUM SYRUP for my puppy or dog?
GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT: Calcium is essential for the development of strong bones and teeth, particularly during the early stages of a puppy's life.
PREGNANT AND LACTATING DOGS have increased calcium requirements to support the development of puppies and milk production.
Calcium supplements may be recommended to meet these increased needs.
IMBALANCED DIET: If your dog's diet is deficient in calcium or has an imbalanced calcium-to-phosphorus ratio, a calcium supplement may be suggested to maintain optimal nutrient balance.
LARGER DOG BREEDS have a higher risk of developmental orthopaedic diseases, such as hip dysplasia. Calcium supplementation may be recommended to support healthy bone growth in these breeds.

Why would I use VETSENSE CALCIUM SYRUP for my kitten or cat?
GENERAL HEALTH DISORDERS relating to certain forms of kidney issues may require calcium supplementation. This should only be done under the guidance of a
veterinarian.
HOMEMADE DIETS:  If you prepare homemade diets for your cat, it's crucial to ensure that the diet is nutritionally balanced, including appropriate levels of calcium.
A veterinarian or veterinary nutritionist can help formulate a balanced diet and determine if calcium supplementation is necessary.
LACTATING QUEENS (MOTHER CATS) have increased calcium requirements to support milk production. In some cases, calcium supplementation may be recommended to prevent calcium deficiency during this period.

Muscle damage is a constant risk in working horses, leading to reduced performance or inability to work. PRESERVE contains the antioxidants that help to preserve normal muscle function and minimize the severity of any muscle damage, including tying up. It will aid in the reduction of stiffness and soreness during or after work that can hamper performance or recovery. PRESERVE helps horses recover after work, reducing down-time between performance and return to training.

PRESERVE contains vitamins and minerals that help keep the immune system operating effectively. The stress of work can often lead to the immune system becoming less effective, with the result that the horse becomes more susceptible to diseases such as colds and coughs. Research has shown that supplementary Vitamin E and selenium provided to a pregnant mare can boost antibody transfer to the foal in colostrum.

PRESERVE contains higher levels of antioxidants than are contained in most general vitamin and mineral supplements. It also contains additional vitamin C, selenium and magnesium to provide advantages over supplements which only contain vitamin E. This is especially important in selenium deficient areas. Each dose of PRESERVE contains organic selenium. Research has shown that organic selenium is retained more efficiently by the horse than inorganic forms.

USES:

• As an antioxidant blend.
• As a vitamin E or selenium supplement.
• Assists in the prevention of tying up and muscle soreness.
• Maintenance of immunity.

The use of glucosamine in equine diets over the long term may help to improve joint health and function. KER GLUCOS-A-FLEX contains a blend of glucosamine hydrochloride (HCL), vitamins, minerals, amino acids and antioxidants . KER GLUCOS-A-FLEX contains 10 grams of glucosamine hydrochloride per 30-gram dose.

KER GLUCOS-A-FLEX also contains the essential amino acid methionine plus calcium and vitamin C as well as the trace minerals copper, zinc and manganese to supplement diets where levels may be low.

Methionine is an important amino acid and supplementation may assist to cover the shortfalls in methionine-deficient diets. Copper has a role in iron metabolism, bone development, and maintenance of elastic connective tissue whilst manganese has a role in general metabolism, development of bone, cartilage and connective tissue, and zinc in general growth and metabolism. Zinc is also required for normal bone and cartilage development and is involved in maintaining the integrity of skin and mucous membranes, coat and hooves, and in wound healing. GLUCOS-A-FLEX is a powdered feed additive for working, competition, performance and aged horses.

DIRECTIONS FOR USE:

To supply glucosamine at 16.7 mg/kg bodyweight feed GLUCOS-A-FLEX according to the following directions. Amounts are indicated for mature horses with a body weight of 500 kg. Doses must be adjusted to suit individual variation:

All stud owners know and understand the absolute necessity to feed brood mares and foals adequate balanced minerals to help prevent, or decrease, the incidence of DOD (Developmental Orthopaedic Disease) in young foals, weanlings and yearlings.

Current supplementation practices have, for many years, been based on NRC (1989) recommended levels of nutrients for growing horses.

Recent scientific research has confirmed that growing horses receiving these NRC recommended levels, or lower, are more likely to develop DOD. The RIRDC (Rural Industries Research & Development Corporation) has recently revised the recommended levels for the essential minerals calcium, phosphorus, copper and zinc in brood mares and growing horses.

In line with the recently recommended mineral level increases, Ranvet has acted to fortify Folactin Red, its mineral formulation for studs, to reflect the new dietary requirements in Folactin Red Plus.

There is a scientific correlation between the occurrence of DOD in horses, and the amount of copper, zinc, calcium and phosphorus fed. The incidence of DOD decreases significantly when these minerals are supplemented at adequate levels.

What’s Improved in Folactin Red Plus?
DOD is well accepted as having multifactorial causes, and supplementation of one mineral alone will do little to reduce DOD lesions. Folactin Red Plus provides boosted levels of the essential bone-building minerals, copper, zinc, calcium and phosphorus, and now has added magnesium

Copper is critically involved in stabilising bone collagen, and formation of elastin. It has long been recognised that copper is essential to help reduce DOD lesions, and copper has been shown to reduce the prevalence of cartilage lesions in foals when present in adequate amounts. Most Australian pastures are copper deficient.

Zinc deficiency in the diet can also be a contributing cause to DOD, and recent scientific studies confirm that increased dietary zinc allowed increased recovery from DOD in foals.

Calcium and phosphorus, the two primary minerals involved in development of sound, healthy bones, must be present in a very precise ratio to allow normal bone development. The levels of calcium and phosphorus in Folactin Red Plus are now higher than NRC recommendations, because scientific research shows that the amounts necessary to maximise bone strength and total mineral content, as well as to reduce the incidence of DOD’s, is higher than the levels required to maximise growth rate.

Magnesium is needed for more than 300 biochemical reactions in the body. It helps maintain normal muscle and nerve function, keeps heart rhythm steady, supports a healthy immune system, and keeps bones strong. Magnesium also helps regulate blood sugar levels, promotes normal blood pressure, and is known to be involved in energy metabolism and protein synthesis

Is Folactin Red Plus Safe?
The improved levels of copper and zinc are still well below the upper safe concentrations (copper, 800ppm, and zinc 500ppm), as determined by the NRC, 1989. There is no risk in feeding these improved levels of copper and zinc, but there could be significant advantages in doing so.

The improved ratio of calcium and phosphorus simply reflects the current research on DOD prevention, and levels of both minerals are significantly below any likely toxicity levels, while being balanced for optimum availability and absorption. Calcium : phosphorus imbalances are most likely to occur when high grain rations are fed, or when horses graze tropical grasses for extended periods.

Is Folactin Red Plus Designed for Brood Mares As Well As Foals?
In the last 3 months of pregnancy the foetus doubles in size, and calcification of the skeleton occurs. If adequate calcium is not available at this time, foals are often premature, with inadequate calcium stores, and predisposed to rickets. During late pregnancy the mare draws heavily on calcium reserves stored in her bones. If she has insufficient access to dietary calcium during this period, the mare’s own body reserves of calcium may be severely depleted.
Lactating mares require even more minerals than pregnant mares - up to three times greater than normal requirements. In fact, the lactating mare loses over four times the amount of calcium than does a pregnant mare. Folactin Red Plus provides the safety margin to allow for dietary insufficiencies.

Folactin Red Plus improves the mineral quality of mare’s milk.
It is important to understand that the foal relies on body stores of the trace minerals, including copper and zinc, as little is absorbed from colostrum, therefore it is essential to ensure that mares in late pregnancy are fed a diet balanced in minerals for incorporation into foetal bone structure.

Young, Growing Horses Require Balanced Essential Minerals
Young growing horses require a balanced intake of minerals, including calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium, copper, iron, zinc, iodine and manganese for healthy, sound bone growth. At any time pastures are likely to be deficient in one or more of the essential bone building minerals. While many other factors such as dietary protein are also involved in DOD, providing adequate balanced minerals is the key to reducing the risk of DOD.

Can Folactin Red Plus Be Fed To Adult Horses?
Yes. Folactin Red Plus will be of value in adult horses where deficiencies or imbalances of calcium. phosphorus, copper, and zinc may exist in the pasture or diet. Folactin Red Plus is of significant value in brood mares in the last third of pregnancy and lactation, as well as in working horses and stallions.

BetaCALM is a Tryptophan, Thiamine, Vitamin E and Magnesium supplement designed to nutritionally support nervous and anxious horses.

What is BetaCALM?

They don’t call it the nervous system for nothing! Anxiety affects horses too and stressful experiences can have a significant effect on their mental state. That’s why BetaCALM was formulated – to provide a source of vitamins, minerals and amino acids that may help to reduce nervousness or hyper-reactivity in horses.

How does BetaCALM work?

BetaCALM has a unique combination of four ingredients to nutritionally support nervous horses without affecting performance.

• Tryptophan: An essential amino acid that stabilises the horse’s mood, reduces anxiety and lessens the stress response. Tryptophan is not produced naturally by the horse and beneficial levels are not found in feed. It is converted in the body to serotonin, which helps to induce a feeling of calmness.
• Vitamin B1 (Thiamine): A B vitamin that plays a vital role in nerve transmission. Hard-working horses or those on a high grain, low forage diet may have reduced production of thiamine in the hindgut due to stress or hindgut acidosis.
• Vitamin E: An antioxidant that helps to protect cell membranes from oxidative damage and maintain normal nerve and other functions.
• Magnesium: Important for cell metabolism, especially in the nervous system and muscles during work.

The specific levels of magnesium, vitamin B1 (thiamine), vitamin E and tryptophan may help to actively reduce the stress response during training, travelling and competition. With thiamine’s important role in energy metabolism and nerve transmission, and tryptophan’s role in the inhibition of stress and fear, deficiencies of these nutrients may cause anxiety, mental confusion and failure of muscle coordination. On top of this, magnesium has been found to reduce reactivity in horses.

Remember, there are many factors that can cause undesirable behaviour in horses including diet, age, training, housing, pain and digestive conditions. It is best to discuss your horse’s diet and history to determine whether changes in feeding and management practices are also required to reduce anxious behaviour. To help manage nervous horses, try providing constant access to forage, small meals and reduce starch/sugar in the diet. Also, decreasing stable time and providing equine company is very beneficial for mental health.
