Vytrate is an oral, non-antibiotic supportive treatment for replacement of lost fluids and electrolytes in scouring or dehydrated calves, pigs and lambs. Suitable as a first feed for bought in or stressed calves and pigs, and as an aid in the treatment of pregnancy toxaemia in ewes.
Features of Vytrate:
- Actively fights dehydration and replaces lost fluids and electrolytes.
- Reduces scour duration and severity.
- Contains a balanced mix of glucose, glycine, citrate and electrolytes.
- Fights acidosis.
- Easy to mix and administer.
- Registered for use in calves, lambs and ewes, dogs, cats, pigs and foals.
Indications:
- Diarrhoea
- Dehydration
- Post-transport stress
- Pregnancy Toxaemia in ewes
Withholding Periods:
Meat Nil.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
Vytrate Liquid Concentrate: solution intended for oral administration after dilution with water to 12.5 times its original volume.
Following are directions for the preparation of commonly required dose volumes. Measure the required volume of Vy'trate Liquid Concentrate into the mixing vessel and make up to volume required with clean, fresh drinking water. Replace cap firmly after use.
Mix 40 mL Vy'Trate Liquid Concentrate with water to make up to 500 mL diluted solution; mix 80 mL to make up to 1 L; mix 160 mL to make up to 2 L. 1 L pack makes a total of 12.5 L; 5 L pack makes 62.5 L.
Calves:
Bought in calves. Feed 2 L of diluted solution, made up as above, as the first feed on arrival. For the next scheduled feed, use 1 L diluted solution at the same time as, but not mixed with, milk or milk replacer. Thereafter, feed normal diet.
Scouring calves. Dose rate: 1 to 1.5 L diluted solution/10 kg bodyweight daily, divided into two or more daily doses. If scouring is established or severe, causing serious dehydration, the higher dose should be used initially and fed in three or four divided doses. 2 L of diluted solution given morning and night will be adequate in many cases.
Directions. Immediately signs of scours are seen, withdraw milk or milk replacer and feed the required dose for two days. For a further two days return to milk feeding at half normal rate, with diluted solution given between these feeds. Thereafter feed as normal. SeekĀ veterinary advice if blood is present or scours persist beyond four days. Keep feeding utensils clean and avoid overfeeding. Normal feeding should be resumed after the course of treatment. Replace with fresh solution every 24 hours. Many scouring problems can be avoided by feeding adequate colostrum early in the calf's life.
Pigs:
Suckling piglets. Immediately scour signs appear, fresh diluted solution, made up as above, should be made available, in a clean vessel, to the whole litter. A litter of 1 week old piglets will consume approximately 2 to 3 L/day. The amount consumed will increase with the age of the piglets. Piglets may be dosed individually, by giving 20 to 30 mL diluted solution three or four times a day, taking care to avoid choking. Take care to ensure that piglets are not left without diluted solution, drinking water or sow's milk. Check the supply of solution every twelve hours and replenish if necessary.
Weaned pigs:
Scouring weaned pigs should have fresh diluted solution available in a suitable clean vessel. Restrict solid feed intake for one to two days, but continue to supply fresh drinking water. As a general guide, weaners will consume 1 to 2 L/weaner/day.
Duration of treatment (all pigs). Diluted solution should be made available for four days, but if the scour has not cleared completely, treatment may be continued for up to eight days in total. If there is no sign of improvement, consult a veterinary surgeon.
Periods of stress:
For the two to three days following any period of stress (i.e. weaning, transport etc.), Vy'Trate will help to increase fluid and electrolyte consumption and absorption, so minimising any possible setback. As diluted solution is extremely palatable and excessive drinking may occur, diluted solution at half the strength recommended above may be used, for this indication only. Replace with fresh solution every 24 hours.
Sheep:
Scouring lambs. Give 150 to 200 mL fresh diluted solution two to four times daily as required. The solution should be adjusted to body heat and given via a feeding bottle and teat. The lamb should also suck the ewe. Unused diluted solution may be kept in a clean container below 25°C but should be replaced with fresh solution every 24 hours.
Pregnancy toxaemia in ewes:
Administer 160 mL undiluted solution using suitable drenching equipment. Repeat at four to six hour intervals as necessary. Prompt treatment as soon as signs appear improves the likelihood of a complete recovery.
SIZES: 1L; 5L

ABOUT FEEDING INSECTS:
Insectivorous species kept in captivity usually lack the diversity and quality of a natural diet in the wild. Feeder insects are often maintained on nutrient-poor substrates (eg bran), which can lead to dietary deficiencies. Insects have no skeletal structure and are therefore a poor source of calcium.
IMPROVING INSECT NUTRITION:
By maintaining the live feeder insects on Insect Booster, the nutritional value of the captive diet is significantly enhanced. This provides a means of supplying essential amino acids, essential fatty acids (omega 3 & 6), vitamins, minerals and colour-enhancing carotenoids. Supplying nutritionally improved feeder insects maintained on Insect Booster is more effective than simply "gut-loading" insects raised on inadequate diets.
Test Results after using Insect Booster showed that calcium levels and the calcium to phosphorus ratio were significantly improved. This is a more effective method of supplying calcium than dusting insects with calcium powder. The levels of other minerals, vitamins and colour-enhancing carotenoids were also significantly improved.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE:
For best results, supply insect booster to the feeder insects for at least 14 days prior to feeding animals. Moisture should always be available to insects and can be supplied as a piece of wet sponge, fruit or vegetable.
Adult Insects (crickets & woodies): Supply Insect Booster as a dry powder in a shallow bowl or plate. Insect Booster is a complete diet and does not require other foods to be added.
Juvenile Insects (mealworms & fly pupae): Make a 50:50 mixture of Insect Booster with bran and supply as the substrate in which the pupae live.
Ingredients: Pollard, whey & soy proteins, methionine, vegetable oils, omega-3 & omega-6 fatty acids, vitamins, minerals & carotenoids.
SIZES: Available in 300g & 5kg.

Common appearances of bacterial infections:
- Pimples
- Circular rings of scale or redness (as larger pimples pop and leave 'rings' of skin damage)
- Moist areas of skin commonly referred to as hotspots
Sometimes there is just bad luck involved, although the majority of cases of skin infections in dogs can be tracked to underlying conditions which allow the low numbers of normal bacterial residents to overgrow and cause disease.
Underlying causes for bacterial infections:
- Allergy, pollen, grass, food (meats), fleas
- Hormonal problems (including Cushing's disease and thyroid problems)
- Parasitic infestations such as demodex mites or Scabies.
Pyohex shampoo and conditioner have the great benefit over creams and lotions in that they can be applied all over, regardless of the amount of fur coverage.
Shampoo your dog with Pyohex shampoo, then after rinsing allow the dog to shake excess water from its coat.Ā Next rub Pyohex Conditioner through the coat whilst still damp. This can be achieved by applying a small amount to your hands, lightly rubbing your hands together and then dabbing your hands over your dog's coat. After the conditioner is roughly distributed give your dog a good rub to evenly distribute it throughout the coat.Ā
How often should I use Pyohex Medicated Shampoo & Conditioner?
During periods of active infection the shampoo and conditioner should be used twice per week. Once the infection has resolved, bathing once per week or fortnight is often enough to prevent recurrences. The time of year may influence the frequency of bathing - during spring and summer, dogs who suffer bad allergies may find they require more frequent bathing then they do in winter when their allergies are not as active.
Active ingredient: 30g/L Chlorhexidine gluconate
SIZE: 100mL; 200mL

Actions:
VITAMIN C (Ascorbic acid) INJECTION provides Vitamin C supplementation.
VITAMIN C is essential to normal joint cartilage maintenance and repair.Ā
VITAMIN C acts to reduce stress and improves cardiovascular function.Ā
How Does It Work?
Vitamin C is an essential coenzyme in certain metabolic processes particularly in the metabolism of the amino acids Tyrosine and Phenylalanine collagen synthesis in ligaments tendons and joint cartilage synthesis of L-Carnitine red blood cell formation and modulating immune responses as well as in the maintenance of healthy skin. It is also essential in the conversion of Folic acid and in promoting the absorption of Iron from the gut. Vitamin C has a role in the metabolism of certain steroid hormones and high levels of Vitamin C are found in the Adrenal gland in times of stress.
VITAMIN C has a major role as a potent antioxidant to remove toxic free radicals produced during hard physical exercise.
VITAMIN C is critical and essential in the maintenance and repair of joints and joint cartilage synthesis of collagen proteoglycans and other joint components tooth bone skin and blood vessel maintenance and in the healing and repair of wounds burns and fractures.
Vitamin C is essential in the synthesis of L-Carnitine.
Like the B Complex vitamins Vitamin C is water soluble and is not well stored in the body. It is rapidly absorbed and equally as rapidly excreted so must be supplemented on a regular basis.
Horses are able to synthesise Vitamin C in normal circumstances but failure of liver enzyme systems can initiate a deficiency.
Key Features & Benefits:
* VITAMIN C is a major antioxidant to neutralise free radicals.
* VITAMIN C enhances tissue healing and growth.
* VITAMIN C improves immune function and acts as an antiinflammatory agent.

SCALY MITE IN BUDGERIGARS:
Budgerigars, and many other bird species, can be struck by the burrowing mite (Knemidokoptes ssp.), more commonly known as Scaly Face Mite. In budgies, mostly the head is affected (especially the beak, the cere, and the eyelids). Also the legs and feet can be affected and in really severe cases the area around the bird's vent will show signs of infestation.
There appear to be two species of Knemidocoptes ā one on the face, and one on the legs ā but for all practical purposes we consider them as one (Scaly Mite) and treat the same.
The Latin name for the so-called scaly mite group is Knemidokoptes (also spelt as Cnemidocoptes).
Scaly Face is a term used for an infestation of burrowing or scaly face mites (Knemidokoptes pilae).
Scaly Leg or tassle foot is often due to Knemidocoptes mutans (Scaly Leg Mite). Both Scaly Face and Scaly Leg mites are invisible to the naked eye.
Knemidokoptes pilae will affect not only the legs but also the beak, the eyes and the area around the vent. In budgerigars, Knemidokoptes pilae affects chiefly the beak. In most cases, an infestation originates there and spreads to the legs and the area around the vent later on.
If an infestation of Knemidokoptes has occurred, the bird affected will experience severe itching if the mites are not limited to the upper mandible.
In the initial stage, an infestation with burrowing mites is hardly visible and hardly affects the general condition of the diseased bird. There are initially crusty plaques in the corners of the beak and on the beak itself.
In the early stages, they have the appearance of a bright white deposit that becomes thicker and crustier over time. The upper mandible becomes increasingly "coral like" since the burrowing mites dig subtle tunnels (paths). In the skin around the eyes, on the legs or around the vent is also affected, this is accompanied by strong itching.
The bird appears restless and is scratching itself perpetually.
If the infestation progresses untreated, serious complications usually occur that are not only extremely painful for the affected bird but often result in its death!
Burrowing mites are transmitted mainly in the nest box during feeding; i.e. during direct body contact from parents unto the chicks. A transmission between adult birds has also been observed, although this rarely happens. Thus special attention should be paid in pairs of birds and flocks if an infection with burrowing mites has occurred! A couple of years can pass between the time of infection and the appearance of first symptoms. In most cases, however, a mite infestation in a budgie occurs between its 6th and 12th month of life; thus often shortly after the bird has been bought.
There are some individuals who are more susceptible to the mite than others⦠often infestations will follow family lines. There may be some genetic predisposition among birds.
There are many so called "treatments" available for Scaly Mite treatment. These range from Paraffin Oil and Petroleum Jelly to strong disinfectants. Mostly these treatments are designed to suffocate the mite or kill on contact. Older treatments are messy, inconsistent and fiddly to apply.
Technology has now caught up with this disease and Avimec, containing Ivermectin, is now available to treat Knemidocoptes.
Using a simple "drop on" formula the liquid is applied to the bird's skin once weekly for three weeks. Depending on the severity of the disease, cure will take from 3 ā 8 weeks as the bird's body repairs the areas of damage.
In breeding facilities, Budgerigars should be treated yearly to control the mite. Even birds that appear unaffected should be treated as they often can carry the mite ā ready to spread them on to their young.
Please note: Since burrowing mites only live on the body, it is not necessary to treat the cage with an anti-mite-spray. These agents are usually highly toxic and harm the birds! Burrowing mites are harmless for humans; there is no risk of an infectio

Racumin Paste contains the active ingredient coumatetralyl from Bayer at a concentration of 0.037%, just like other Racumin formulations. So what makes Racumin Paste different? Ā Vegetable fats and carbohydrates are combined in Racumin Paste in a way that is exceptionally attractive to rats and mice. This results in extremely high acceptance of Paste giving excellent results.
Racumin Paste works by preventing blood coagulation, causing death between 3 to 8 days after the intake of a lethal dose, due to internal bleeding.
Is it a single dose or multiple dose? Many rats and mice take in the lethal dose during the first day of feeding which makes Racumin Paste highly effective. The well known environmental benefits of first generation anticoagulants are maintained; the āsingle dose"lethal effect is primarily achieved by palatability and not by high toxicity.

What are essential fatty acids (EFAs)?
EFAs are the omega 3 & 6 components of fat that cannot be synthesized by the body and must therefore be supplied in the diet. Eggs contain over 25% unsaturated fat composed of oleic, omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. Seed mixes alone do not provide the EFAs that breeding birds require so dietary supplementation is important for improved breeding success.
The Good Oil contains the following EFAs and fat-soluble vitamins:
- Omega 3 & 6 fatty acids which are essential for egg-laying, chick growth and immunity.
- Vitamin A for cell development in the embryo.
- Vitamin D3 for absorption of calcium, bone growth and eggshell formation.
- Vitamin E which is an antioxidant and helps maintain cell membranes.
