About this item
Active ingredient: Oxytetracycline hydrochloride 10g/Kg. A broad spectrum antibiotic powder for treating respiratory and general bacterial conditions in caged birds. No prescription is required for this useful medication.
Actions:
Broad spectrum antibiotic against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, certain rickettsia, chlamydia, actinomyces, mycoplasma, protozoa and some of the larger viruses. It acts by inhibition of proteins in the ribosomes of the bacteria.
Oxytetracycline crosses most biological barriers in the body.
Indications:
Diseases due to susceptible organisms in ornamental cage birds.
Safety Directions:
Avoid contact with the skin and eyes, and avoid inhaling dust.
Dosage and Administration:
CRD and bacterial enteritis dissolve 5g (1 rounded measure) in 50mL of water. Use this solution as the source of drinking water for the treated bird. Make up this solution fresh daily. Treat the bird for 3 - 5 days, or as directed by a veterinarian. 50mL of prepared solution will treat 2 large birds (parrots, cockatoos) or 10 small birds (canaries, finches, budgerigars).

It's hard to determine whether it worked or not, as I was treating my chicken with VetRX and vitamin boosters at the same time.
I don't think it did her any harm, and it was certainly easier than tribute to put a big tablet in her mouth.
Unable to purchase such product locally, this product was a godsend for our favourite hen who was experiencing a respiratory disorder. Treated as directed on the label and she is as good as new. Will keep this product on hand from now on!
Helped my chickens with light respiratory issues, a little fussy to mix up and sometimes just settles as particles at the bottom if you don't mix it for a longer time than feels necessary

I bought this to give to my laying hens as that was how it was advertised....when it came it kind of inferred that is was NOT for laying chickens? I googled it and it seems lots of people use it for laying hens....but it was not meant for them....i was pretty desperate, and it has worked. None of them died....and as no one is laying I guess eating the eggs isn’t an issue. Would prefer clarity around wether this is indeed ok to give to laying chickens and if so what is a good withholding period.
HI Linda, Oxymav B only has registration for use in ornamental caged birds (eg canaries, budgies, parrots etc). It has not been registered for use in birds producing food for human consumption and so any such use would be considered off-label. As such there is no withholding period information available. Your veterinarian may be able to recommend off-label usage of various medications but otherwise we can only recommend usage of the product as per the label directions.
I keep this as part of my essentials in my bird first aid kit especially if there has been a lit of rain and wind. As always if you are unsure on what's wrong or what to use seek help from a vet.
Used this product for young poultry suffering from CRD (Chronic Respiratory Disease) to which I was only getting small samples of Spectovet each vet consultation which was costing a fortune in this horrible wet weather. A friend suggested Oxymav B to try and I can get a 1kg tub to treat birds suffering on a cheaper budget plus it works like a charm. Birds actually enjoy the taste I've found (happily drink it).

This product took so long to get. I ordered it on 1st April, it wasn't depatched until the 9th and then took about 3 days to get. This made it hard when you have a sick animal and the delay time was so long. In future I will have stock on hand ready, but still don't understand why it took that long to despatch from Vet n Pet????? On the upside it appears that the product has helped my sick chookie and she is on the mend.

Oxymav B is an excellent broad spectrum product that I have used many times with all kinds of ornamental and caged birds to fix their respiratory problems. I have rescued budgies, weiro's, quails, grass parrots and some finches. I used it on all of them to ensure good health before they joined my flock, with excellent results every time. I would recommend it to anyone for Avian health.

Very good product to use on poultry. Should be on hand to any poultry breeder. Helps with stress and cold weather (flu). The 1kg bucket is the best and the cheapest way to buy. Very highly recommened.
This product was recommended by Maitland Veternary Clinic for treatment of a respiratory infection in my chooks, which had claimed two lives. Since then I have treated all of my chooks and have had no further losses.
