About this item

Soluvite D is a powder vitamin supplement with increased Vitamin D3 for use in water or added to foods. It contains all 13 essential vitamins required for a balanced diet in birds along with increased levels of Vitamin D3 to support birds with insufficient access to natural sunlight.

Vitamin D3 is a particularly important nutrient. Birds housed indoors may lack D3, which can lead to poor breeding success and chick growth, inadequate calcium absorption and many other problems.

Soluvite D is recommended for all birds on seed diets and is
particularly useful for birds housed indoors with limited or no access to natural sunlight.

Soluvite D should be used in conjunction with a trace mineral supplement (e.g. TRACEMIN) and a calcium supplement (e.g. CALCIVET or D NUTRICAL), for birds on seed diets.

DIRECTIONS:

Add 4g to 400mL of water and stir well OR add 1g to 1 cup of food and combine well. Daily use of vitamins in either food or water is recommended to supplement the diet.

Soluvite D may be used in all species of birds. Prepared water should not be exposed to direct sunlight; replace daily.

Vitamin D Supplement

Great supplement for indoor birds - but I haven't been using it as much lately due to the fact that it makes my budgie's poops runny. This causes him to have a dirty vent. It might just be because a sudden change, but I will definitely try again as it is very good for indoor birds.

I had used an opposition product similar to Soluvite D for a number of years and can attest to the fact that these products greatly assist fertility and general well being of my canaries. Vetafarm Soluvite D Powder Vitamin Supplement

After reading an article written by Don Burke about this product in a recent Club Newsletter that I receive, I decided to give it a try. I have been using the product for only two weeks now and it is in the middle of winter and the birds (budgies) are really taking to it. I read that it may take up to six months of use to really see the benifits in the breeding room, but I am prepared to keep on using it and I am hoping that the breeding results will improve in the new year when I will be pairing up. I have never used this type or similar product before, so time will tell.

Thank you for your Question.

Yes Soluvite D does contain dextrose – it is used as a carrier for the vitamins as it is water soluble. Any powdered vitamin supplement that is designed to be added to water will likely contain a sugar carrier as these are the safest carriers that dissolve readily in water. In having said that, the amount of sugar consumed in each ml of water when the product is diluted is minimal. (When diluted, the approx. sugar consumed by a budgerigar on Soluvite D water is 44mg dextrose/day)

If Soluvite D Breeder was used, which is a 10x concentrate formula, this would drop to 4.4mg dextrose/day)

The customer could contact their veterinarian with this information for advice, or alternatively use either D’Nutrical (Vitamins, minerals and calcium, no sugar, but designed to be added to food) or Multivet (Vitamins, minerals and amino acids, no sugar, in liquid form and freely soluble in water) – either of these options are completely free of sugars.

If the budgie is a breeding bird, I’d recommend D’Nutrical, if it is a pet budgerigar, Multivet would be the best option.
